Interesting helmet for sure. I think the number could be Reichswehr since the paint looks typically post WW1 reissue to me.

Also, the size of the number six is similar to the size and placement of the Reichwehr state shields. I think it is too large for WWI and besides, it appears to have been painted over the repaint job.
