    Karpathenkorps Insignia

    Wei gehts:

Here is an "authorized" Karpathenkorps cap insignia on the issue card. The manufacturer was George Lindner of Munich (most were). The insignia was to be attached to a piece of cloth and then sewn between the cockades. Officers insignia were of silver and other ranks were of white metal. The pine branches were painted green. A special insignia for the Karpathenkorps was authorized by Willi in December 1916, and King Ludwig III authorized it for the bavarians in January 1917 and was finally issued to the troops in July 1917.

                        Sarge,

Nice photos. They have an excellent museum at Sonthofen, dedicated to the German mountain troops. I have a tour brochure and photos taken by friends who have been there. One photo verified something I had thought for years, that this special Edelweiß was worn by Württemberg mountain units.

Some collectors sold this badge with the description:

                          Edelweiss of the Leibregiment.

                            Sarge,

That would be nice too, but I think it was more for Württemberg mountain troops.

Chip, is it correct that original aluminium Karpathenkorps badges were made, too? I remember I have seen one in past...
