It looks like a nice example of the late war Erkennungsmarke, I can not remember the model, but I think it is the M1917.

        Hey Scott,
I was mistaken, it is an M1916 Marke, below are examples of the M1878 and M1915 Erkennugsmarke, the M1878 is also Bavarian

            Thanks for showing.
Fascinating area of collecting. 'German WW1 Identity Tags/Disks' by Peter Meinlschmidt is well worth a read, 200 pages packed with info including a pic of Mr Hitler,s WW1 Tag.

I'd have to disagree with the seller's contention that this pattern is "quite scarce". It is probably the most commonly encountered pattern.

You can make the oxidation look better and protect the zink from further deterioration by covering the disk with a thin coat of vaseline jelly and then wiping the excess off.

I enjoy seeing the many variations of these and will second Eric's recommendation of Peter Meinlschmidt's book from 1993. Quite a few of my disks are in there. I corresponded with him last month and he still has copies of the English language version available.

Eric, Chip, Thanks for this valuable Info on Peter Meinlschmidt's Book & the Vaseline jelly to preserve the Tag which i will do today as i have some vaseline at hand, i,m just glad to have a nice enough I.D disc thats not broken or unreadable even if its a common enough pattern to find these days, Chip you know what these sellers are like everything got to be scarce, or ultra rare or Hens Teeth

                Cheers Scott.
