    WW1 era bread bag

Does anyone know of a reference page or place with photos of what a complete WW1 bread bag should look like? Inside and out preferably. Also, are there any markings to indicate Imperial or Weimar era?

Breadbags could be unit marked or not. Weimar unit markings often had a unit mark similar to this - 4./123. In imperial times, the "/" forward slash was not used on official stamps, though you do see it on hand-written unit designations.

I know that there is a thread on the French WWI website that shows some, as I posted two of my navy breadbags on it. I think there might also be a thread on breadbags on the German Helmet Walhalla site.

Did anyone see the Ebay bread bag listed as WWI for 157.00 that did not sell? I was going to bid but forgot.

Yeah, I saw it too. I think it was taken down early.

                klr,

I think the unit stamp stands for "Reserve Fuhrpark Kolonne 30". It's a nice example. The maker is Herm. Flohr of Köln.

William: $157 for a breadbag?!! Boy, have I lost track of current prices!

But I don't play in the expensive strata of the helmet collectors here. Maybe in comparison, this sounds very cheap? The current prices of helmets absolutely floor me too. Last one I bought was very nice and complete and was $150. Of course, that was 15 years ago.

The Bread bag I saw on ebay was in vry good shape with all straps and no damage. Much better then mine that has some damage.

                      Helmet prices floor me too.

I'm trying to get my hands on one of these, but it seems that one that is not missing too much or too damaged only pops up every once in a while. And then its usually overpriced.

                          Joe,

Like you said, it's hard to tell, but it is either "B.A.X" or "B.A.XV".

I love these ochre bags and straps. Here,s one of mine hopefully with original stamps. The M07 canteen is Ullrich 14.

My head might be full of mush right now but $157!!! That,s insane. Listen to Uncle Chip.

Very nice bag, strap and canteen. Those issue M07s are really difficult to get in nice, complete condition. Yours is a beauty.
