    Reproduction Pickelhaube

I'm interested in getting a reproduction Pickelhaube for my desk at home. I've done a little research, and I like the Bavarian insignia most of all. Can someone recommend a dealer or manufacturer for historically accurate reproduction Pickelhaube?

    Regards

Repro? Don't do it! It's like spending money twice!

A reproduction will cost nearly as much as a real one, it will never increase in value (You will have difficulty getting your money out of it if you need to sell) I can not see any good reason (other than if you plan on wearing it re enacting or on a motorcycle) to pay good money for a fake. It would be imbarasing to have to answer the question, "Is it real?" with "No, it is a fake"

I received a reproduction pickelhaube very similar to Eric's for Christmas, mine was probably purchased from the same place. I plan on doing a review in pictures of it here on the WAF.

Sorry if I interrupted your photos there Eric.

                Well
To me a 'Fake' is something claiming to be what it is,nt.
These are my only pickels. Both repops. The Grey is missing the birds left 'foot' was made by my great
friend Dick Vandel. To me its priceless.

                  Hi
No problem. I dont see anything wrong with a nice reproduction Haube. There usually large size and they look great on a mannequin or in your play kit.
They,re not that expensive Gus, come on. You can even remove the repop plate if you want and add an original.

I agree. They are the only option for those of us who have large heads; my repo is a 61, good luck ever finding an original in that size. Great for display, reenacting, and especially great to wear if you want to impress a lady on a first date.

I plan on doing this with mine, I've got a original spike that I'm going to put on mine as well.

Search pickelhaube on ebay and you'll find a bunch of repos. You can find some decent originals in the 300-400 range.

Nearly all of the repos on Ebay are absolute junk, they don't even come close to the real thing.

                          Hey Eric,
all the repros I have seen are in the $300 range, and granted, if you are wanting something for re enacting, it is better to use a repro, even if you can find one in a size that will fit that is original. I can not see a reproduction increasing in value, especially as they are still making them, but if you buy an original for $500 today, in two years it will be worth much more. I am just thinking from a collector's point of view, as the history behind the item is what interests me, and a reproduction has no history (unless it has some "special" history, I have a reproduction Kiwi uniform that has a special place for me, but it is not something that I would recomend to anyone else), and you are righ, they are not fake until someone represents them as original, but sadly, this happens quite frequently on fleabay anymore.

Look at this bunch of deadbeats.
These are quality repops not ebay trash. None of us have a problem selling a good pickel at gigs. In that sense there is a market for them. In fact new dudes want the old boys uniforms as well, for some reason there not made as good anymore imo.

                            Cheers

I saw one at a show a while back I thought was quite well made.

The owner said it was from a top notch maker who was out of business.
He wanted about $500 or more as I recall.
