German and Austrian Cammo Helmets up for Review

I am currently posting several objects in several forums for a friend of mine. Here are two cammo helmets he would like to hear your opinions on. First one up is German and the second Austrian.

I do not know how the Austrian photos will appear to you, but when it is in your hand the black lines have a strange silvery or metallic look to them that resembles iridescence – the patina on old glass that looks like a metallic rainbow.

    Anyway….here they are.

I look forward to your thoughts.

and...the last of the Austrian pot.

On looking at the photos...maybe this thing was painted over with silver paint?

            Strange....

Anyway...have at them and let me know what you think.

I don't like the pads in the last photo in that helmet. No comment on the paint other then to say i never like it when I see so many layers of paint.

The slice in the one chin strap is odd.

Why is it odd to see that slice in the chin strap? Could it be normal wear nf tear?

Normal wear and tear done by a cutting tool? The whole chin strap looks unlike any I've seen. The leather seems a different gage and the buckles are rounded rather then a sharper flat. Maybe they are from a off maker I've never seen before. I am sure Hans will tell us the scoop if that's the case.

the pads are repop on the Austrian. The camo on both is fake. imo

Thanks for the thoughts so far.

So ...the cammo is bad on both?

                        Brad,

I don't really know but I don't like something about the paint on both. The first one has a better chance then the Austrian one. I think the Austrian Helmet is a bad camo and like Eric said the pads are bogus.

While German camo's come in all kinds of paint patterns and quality and or lack of, there is something very un German about the paint job. It just rubs me as Bubba painting one up in the backyard. I may be wrong and I think I saw that helmet on ebay not too long ago.

As you can see with this example, just because it has 30 or 40 years of real time honest aging does not mean Bubba was not behind the paint work.

I think the German camo would technically be worth a hands-on inspection because nothing really stands out in these pictures to make me suspicious of it. The liner looks fine too. The chinstrap isn't WW1 issue German. The abnormally wide looking strap and quality of leather rule that out IMO.

The Austrian helmet is one red flag after the other. Nothing on this helmet looks right.
