Ebay M16 I lost bid to.

I really love this helmet but could not win it at all costs so stopped bidding at a grand. No further bidding and just goes to show helmets don't sell great unless I am bidding to win.

The winning bidder bid five more times above his winning bid, that can be dangerous, as some bidders will keep bidding until there is only one bid higher

Ouch. That one must've hurt to lose. I missed a bunch of French bond posters, but I have to tell myself that they're be others... there usually are, anyways. Plus, now you have $1020 more than you would've at this point!

Yes he did. I could have had it but not at a deal. Seem deals are for other bidders.

Man I just went and checked the bidding and sure enough the winner placed bids on top of his own bids when no one else was bidding. That is what you see when those helmets sell for 3,000 dollars like a month and a half ago.

It's disheartening to feel as if I am bidding against the equivalent of crack addicts in the militaria world where they have to have the items as much as a crack head needs his crack.

Nice helmet. One never knows what these will bring. On rare occasions, one can get lucky.

                  Chip,

The below must have been a mistake on your posting but wanted to address it. I thought that guards helmet might be good but knew better then to bid no matter what. It was a steal at the winning bid but again if i went to bat for it it would have sold for what it's worth.

In my opinion, it was a great original Garde Division helmet. As said, it was a bargain at this price. It's not too often you see one that has all the correct attributes. This one was a winner.

Understandable, but I guess sometimes someone really wants the piece. A few years ago, I was doing research on a Civil War regiment in some local archives, and then a month later, I found some letters on eBay that were written by the same soldier whose letters I was reading at the archives. Needless to say, I felt like I had to win that auction at almost any price.

That was an exceptional case, though. I don't think it was the same circumstance as the helmet...

Christmas is always a bad time to sell and a good time to buy. Many people do not have money this time of year for Hobbies and do not bid etc. IMO things usually sell for less than they would in the summer etc.

Agreed. That's exactly what I'm doing right now. Not too much competition out there right now.

I like mine, it is beat to crap but it is a Wartime paint job and the interior is 100% real.
