    Camo M16 "K&M 68"

Körting & Mathiesen manufactured size 68 Stahlhelm painted with camo splotches of red, dark and light green, and the odd bit of white. The helmet is complete with its original liner and chinstrap. The drawstring was the only thing missing, and the one shown here is an original replacement.

This is the first size 68 WW1 helmet I've ever owned. Those interested in and keeping track of WW1 German shell manufacturers will know that helmets made by Körting & Mathiesen turn up extremely rarely.

                Hi Hans,

That's a real beauty. I've never seen this maker before in person, so it's great to see your example. I really enjoy these "splotch" or "dabbed paint" pattern camo's, and yours is super nice. My limited experience has allowed me to see only a handful in this pattern over the years. I'll have to post pics of one I saw in a museum a few weeks ago. The fantastic liner & chinstrap in your helmet are the icing on the cake. A very nice helmet indeed!

Congratulations on aquiring such a rare helmet!

                All the Best,

                Alan Schaefer

Very nice helmet no matter the Maker. I still seek a 68 to replace the one I have as it's got a tiny crack in the dip

Yes, Körting & Mathiesen out of Leutsch/Leipzig, Kingdom of Saxony. Apparently, they only made size 66 and 68 helmets. Nice find.

I haven't seen or heard of a size 66 K&M turning up yet, and I have doubts that they made them in any size other than 68. Since size 66 was the second most common size manufactured, you would expect to see more of them. The company was well known as a lamp manufacturer under the name Kandem and specialized in manufacturing military searchlights during WW1 and, I think, WW2. I assume that they were contracted to produce helmets for only a very short period of time. I'll stick to that theory until a size 66 M18 turns up.

Thank you all very much for the comments Gents.
