Super Rare Saxon Regt 108 Buckle sets a new world record price

Here's an incredibly rare buckle that an advanced collector may see only once or twice in their lifetime, if even at all. The Saxon Schutzen Regiment Prinz Georg Nr. 108. And it is in spectacular, uncleaned condition. What makes it even better is that it's the ultra-rare field-gray color wartime example. The brass & nickel examples for this regiment are exceptionally hard to find, though not nearly as expensive, but these gray wartime examples must be almost non-existant. Last-but-not-least: it's unit marked also, which is the icing on the cake so as to say. It is by far the nicest example of the 3-that I've ever seen available in my lifetime.

It sold for 1.467,00 Euros (1,467), or in today's ever weakening U.S. Dollar that translates to: $2,042.19.

My pockets weren't deep enough to buy it. At least it was nice to be able to admire it on eBay for a week's time.

Here's the link to the auction, if anyone cares to look: http://cgi.ebay.de/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?...285309594.html

And I'll add pics of it, so they'll last for a while if the seller decides to pull them from the eBay.de auction. Enjoy!

    All the Best,

    Alan Schaefer

Yes, I was hoping for that as well, in attempting to place a bid on it. I figured around 1,000 Euros, more or less. But this one is in incredibly nice condition, and may be the nicest one in existance.

I believe Weitze had one a month or so ago on his website for somewhere over 1,000 Euros, maybe around 1,200 Euros possibly. I don't remember for certain. It was listed under a seperate "buckle collection" category at the top of his index.

I also think that Jeff Shrader of AGM may have had one a little over a year ago, as he had a couple of other super rare fieldgray wartime examples from German states that he was also selling at that time, and they sold almost immediately after his catalog opening online.

To member IR92: Thanks for showing us pics of your 3-examples. Did you find all these 3 buckle together at one time? I understand that these are made of some sort of a "non-ferrous pot metal", from the description of the German eBay seller of the above buckle. From what I know of some types of Third Reich tinnies made of pot metal, if they are exposed to moisture they seem to "disintegrate" or get a corrosion on them that looks like acid hit the metal. It looks like a couple of your buckles have that situation where the pot metal has deteriorated. Are some of them ground dug? I'd be curious to know if you'd like to reply. It looks like your 3-examples are all similarly made, with seperately attached disks on the front.

              All the Best,

              Alan
