Gold m16. Safe To Paint Strip.

Hi I found this gold colored m16 would this be safe to paint strip. Is it worth taking off the gold??

Hi try using Acetone or nail varnish remover, paint stripper will take away any origional paint left underneath, i have used Acetone many times with great results on repainted items.

Looks like a nice size66 underneath the paint. I,ve never stripped paint of a helmet but try and do it a little at a time, they may be some original finish under the gold.
Does the helmet have a liner?

Those are always worth stripping. The key is to use a clean rag dipped in acetone (PURE acetone, not the kind with oil or other crap in it) and work slowly, concentrating on one area of the helmet at a time. That paint looks like it should disintegrate and come right off when it makes contact with the acetone, but if some areas are stubborn, leave the rag pressed up against the spot, taking it off every 15 seconds or so to see if the paint is coming loose. I found that it is fun and can be very rewarding to strip over-painted helmets like this.

Don't forget the most important step: Post pics of it when you are done.
