Imperial german sword DAMAST - questions

    Hi guys,

I do not know very much about swords but have an option to buy that imperial german DAMAST- sword.
What I know about it: Very good condition, marked with "M.D Hellinger Breslau" and "Mit Gott für Kaiser u Reich".

Can you tell me what time era it is - before 1900??
What rank did wear such swords - "Unteroffizier"?
What could be a REALISTIC value of such a sword (not absolutly highest possible price) as I want to buy it if the price is fair.

I am sorry that I have not more pics at the moment - some comments to this piece are enough for me

I hope this topic is in the correct thread - otherwise please move it - THANKS for your help,

    Dan!

The sword is a generic mounted officer sword from Breslau although it could have also been worn by NCOs. Breslau is a Polish city that was controlled by the German Empire around the time this sword was manufactured. Since it has two scabbard rings it dates prior to circa 1909. The damast steel blade will increase its value and the Breslau location may increase or decrease its interest since it is not from one of the German states but a border area. You have to decide if this is a plus or minus for your collection. I see swords of this type, with damascus blades, sell in the $750 range.

        Good luck.

Breslau was a Prussian town in Germany at least from 1815 to 1945 (Prussian Provinz Schlesien).
