At present in sure France person made lose interest (they have some cover helmet to be sold) make the promotion of this model of cover helmet.

They say that it result from a lot of 100 forgotten by German in 1914 in the North of France.

But the stitch, according to the curator of the museum of the sewing machine, used to sew figures (on pricking hatch in zigzag) were put to the point that in 1936 by Singer...

    That to say furthermore

One thing more we (Fake-hunter group) have collect one for For a scientific analysis ( C14) and analysis isotopique. All the analyses goes have a value of 360 $, but as the price of one covers helmet it is 780 $ (100 = 78.000 $), is in interest of all the collectors to make the investment.

        Very interesting indeed,

so the zig-zag stitch dates from 1936 and is a Singer sewing machine company invention first used on their machines.

Have I understood this correctly ?

        Thanks for posting, Chris

          Yes allright Chris

The first patent deposited for zizag sew dates from 1882. It is the deck of the sewing machine that moved from right to left. It was thus very difficult to work with this machine, the patent had not success. And with type of sewing machine, it's was imposible to sew the number of this cover helmet.
Another solution of the problem of the sewing zigzag was proposed in 1879 by the American Charles Fischer, the solution according to which it was the material which made a side movement of comings and goings. He obtains for this method the German patent No. 7 ' 913. His idea was realized in 1935 by German Houses Mundlos in Magdeburg, Adler and Phoenix to Bielefeld.
In 1936, Singer invent the mobile arm, it is the needle of moves of right to the left, tissues do not move.
From this date, points zizag become common, and the work more precise.

            Translation :

1 with the story of our friend spitze, but some time later, a warned ear confirmed me that this resulted from a lot brought out 20 years ago in the North of France. This cover helmets have never served, there was a lot, at least good hundred who have flood the market.

I had too fear and the blow I never dashed... It will be for another time because we see it from time to time even.

There is cover from the IR 15 and IR 73.

There is too a suitcase of schulternklappen found on the french riviera (or the souh of France).

Now USCOB, you can understood the sentence : "Wie ein Gott in Frankreich".

The material and the hooks look very good. I really don't see any faults with the construction. Of course, the numbers are easy enough to reproduce. It would be interesting to know if they pass a black light test.

                    The black light test.

The Black light test is a good way to identify the old fake but acutally a lot of a copy are "UV" negative (for exemple the medall's ribon).
And if you washed a good feldrock with the modern washing powder, the agents whitening of the washing powder are going to make her US positive.

For the hooks you can find a loot of on the secondhand market in France.

And the same are always made in notions store. And the sheet can always be refabriqué as before, or to be some sheet of recycling.

About cover foot the bill the group of salesman defends them cover by saying that C14 does not work.... And this against communities scientist.

                        Hello Chris

As for the manufacturer, he is unknown.

In a way the massive appearance of a rare object must be always looked with caution.

The price also invites in the caution, nor the price of one truths even, twice as expensive as a copy.

More the big collections dating 1918 are in the Anglo-Saxon countries, the hairy were never of big collector of souvenir.

To cut one only one solution to keep one and to make an analysis.

At the beginning of the 20éme century the technique to make buttonholes mechanically exists.

It is used on the US uniforms model 1917 ( US17).

The technique is also used in Germany; but as it is about a specific and expensive machine, only very big manufacturer possess one.
All the tailors of modest size (what is the rule in the period) factory of buttonholes in the hand.

Buttonholes machine-made are standard in the USA, because this (your) country applied the fordism to the manufacturing of uniforms and to create so the industrial clothingmaking.
