Hi Guys
Have any of you encountered period buttons made from a wood resin mix?
There are marked FF. Yes, I know
Seriously
I,d appeciate any opinions.
The MGSs badge is bad. Also it has Tunic boards not Mantel? The buttons on
the belt are original and mint. Size marks and issue stamp are faded.
Its also marked Robert Frank MG S* looks like. Any thoughts Gents?
Thanks

Hey Eric,
These buttons look much like the cast aluminum buttons that were used on uniforms made by the Western Costume Company, I have not seen anything like this, but I would not positively declare them reproduction, they could be something used to fill the gaps, as the Germans were short of everything by the last year of the war.
Best

Iam also going to see about this MGSs badge and go inside the lining to get at the back plate. If it is bad it should,nt be on the coat.
Cheers

The M15 shoulder straps were worn both on the Bluse and the Einheitsmantel. So these would be the correct pattern. Unfortunately, they don't match the condition of the coat at all and I am assuming that moths are not so finicky to just chew on shoulder straps!
The pencil marks in the coat do suggest and MG affiliation and I have seen MGSSA badges on greatcoats in period photos. I would look hard before removing this patch.
The buttons for sure are non-regulation. Whether replacements or not, who can say. Personally, on such a nice coat, I would search for M15 overcoat buttons.
