    WW1 Great Coat (Opinions please)

This one is being offered to me. Looks German enough and compares in construction. Just need you wool guys to tip your hat at it and I am sending payment.
Seller tells me there was some period repairs and some post war but that all the buttons seem original to the coat.
four photos is all i have at this time.

Also what is a fair price for it?

I am 99% sure of that fact myself Just want to be 100% before sending payment. Also is this one missing the shoulder boards or were they not worn on the great coat?

          UMMM, Looks small size?
Most late M1915 Greatcoats are missing the boards, no big deal.
          The big question, how much?

OK if it's small my boots are no larger then a size 8 right?

Seller is asking 500 and if boards were worn in the field I'll need to pick some up for the coat for the mannequin display.

$500? Very fair for what looks like a great example. Yes you will need M15 straps which were sewn to the outer shoulder seam, fortunately pairs of these do come up quite a bit, but it might take you a while, so you will have to be patient.

$500, fair enough. I agree with Tony.
                Good job W,

Question on shoulder straps! On my re enactor tunic there are two small straps you weave the shoulder boards through as seen in the photo. Does the great coat have the same set up or do you sew them on?

                  W.

PS, I have to sell my tunic now my neck has outgrown the collar. Fits my girl perfect tho LOL

They discontinued the loops mid 1915, yours is a late M15. Its still possible to find a late coat with them added though.

Ps how old is your girl, does she like the English?

What do you mean by added? Are you saying the German Army did not bother with unit boards on the great coats after 1915?

I asked the girl about English, She says she does not know. She likes the accents. Her maiden name was Otterstrom so Sweedish/Danish. I guess she should lack the animosity of a German like I have for the English

Search the threads. I am always saying the English started what became the first world war and that without them it would have been a short localized war with no where near the death rates.

The first pattern of the M15 Einheitsmantel had no shoulder loops. Straps were top-stitched on. In November of 1916 the loops (Schlaufe) were added so that the straps could be rolled or folded for security purposes. There were no tongues (Laschen) on the M15 issue straps.

So they had the loop and the strap was sewn. The strap going over the loop and buttoned. I never knew that, thanks Chip
But isnt William,s coat a second pattern M15 because of the pleated back?

Us Poor Limey,s get blamed for everything!!! I blame Von Moltke changing the plan, taking from the right wing to give to the left with the result Von Kluck,s stupid left turn. Next time Kamerad "Keep the right wheel strong" signed: Eric Hoss Von Schlieffen!

Back to your Greatcoat. Id like to know myself where to find overcoat boards (wartime). Seems like I been looking forever and just come across a single now and again.

                              Eric,

I was saying that based on the lack of the shoulder loops, but they could have been removed.

M15 infantry pairs show up nearly every month on German Ebay. Due to the value of the Dollar, they can be a bit pricey, but if you need them.....
