I'm no expert, but I don't think that's an officer's helmet. I believe it's a private purchase helmet since it says "Gefreiter Weid" on the leather sweatband.

I'm not an expert either, but I concur that it's a private purchase enlisted man's tschapka from a Uhlan (lancer) regiment. Yes, these didn't have a rear visor. As far as I know, Württemberg only had two Uhlan regiments: Uhlan-Regiments Nr. 19 and 20. I can't read what the regiment number in the liner of this one says.

Hello I don't know much about pickelhables. I thought the nicer lining and the metal chin strap would be for an officer. Thats the way it is on my TR Police shakos. Thanks for the info, either way it has to be rare. kirby

It is an officer's Tsapka of the highest quality. A very, very nice piece.

Eigentums-helm were Pickelhauben that were privately purchased by an individual...Eigentums-helms are of a much higher quality than a standard Mannshaften helmet and often utilize many features found on officer's helmets. For this reason, they are often misidentified as officer, NCO, or One Year Volunteer helmets when in fact, the original owner could have been a Private"
                        -Kaiser's Bunker

Private purchase helmets were the only ones that had a cloth liner like your example. According to Kaiser's Bunker, "Mounted troops (Hlanen, Husaren Feld Artillerie, Train etc) retained chinscales right up until 1915 when they were replaced by the M91 leather chinstrap." Private purchase examples of these are characterized by 2 split prongs that get bent back inside the helmet.

I'm pretty sure that is an Officer's cockade though.
