It's a general purpose strap. They were for one, used to improvise a light weight assault pack. You took your zaltaban and rolled it up and wrapped it around your mess tin and straped it all together with about three of those straps. You used two bread bag straps as shoulder straps to get it on your back. When done it looked a lot like something that was ready made and not improvised.

I've rigged one up as a re enactor. It's easy to see or when wearing to feel that you could fight while wearing it with no problems. It's very light weight and allows you to carry enough to get by for an assault and few night stay over in the field till your unit is relieved.

Eric thanks for the help, Cost me very little so if the seller starts to complain with negative feedback i,ll pay for it & sell it on for reanacting purpuses only. is it just the Ink stamp thats fake & the strap is genuine?

                  Regards Scott.

                    Eric,

What makes it a fake? It certainly looks at least as old as the WWII straps I have. Is just the stamps fake? Is it WWII vintage? Swiss? What's the deal?

                    Scott,

At least with Ebay USA the seller cannot give bad feed back anymore.

                              Gents,
There,s nothing wrong with the strap. It started being a fake when someone recently stamped it 1915 Yuk!!
IMO the problem is it was such a good idea various countries started making them. probably still do. The black set is an example of the type of strap passed off as German WW2 in fact there West German circa 1950,s Here are some of my WW1 straps. All are contract maker stamped and dated 14-18. Most have Reg or BA marks. I do have a rare 1913 dated INK stamped one but thats an exception. The point I would make if it is,nt maker stamped and dated, it is,nt WW1.
The Funky ink marked 'thing' doesnt even rate a comment. It was meant to deceive, and take some collectors cash period.
