    Painted Buttons

I pick up Imperial buttons when I can find them. In my collection I have early war tombac rimmed buttons, and some late unrimmed painted iron buttons. However, one find was 6 tombac rimmed buttons, but they were all painted a dark green, not unlike the green used to paint helmets. I always understood that tombac buttons were left unpainted. Is it possible these could have been painted in the field to prevent reflections, or for other purposes?

    Silver/gold rimmed crown buttons

Yes, I bought some buttons at SOS which were unsual as well. One was a rimmed crown stamped out in silver and another was a rimmed crown painted gold. I did not quite understand either one. Does anyone have any thoughts on this issue?
