    Help in choosing a Pickelhaube

    Gentlemen

A person I know has a large pichelhaube collection that they are selling off.
The collection consists of about 20 + pichelhaulbes including those for artilliary, officers and various states etc.
My problem is I know practically nothing about pickelhaubes and need some help in deciding which one to possibly buy.
I was hoping someone could give me a few pointers as to what pichelhaulbs are the most desirable artilliary, infantry, officer, state (Oldenberg, Mechlenberg) etc.
This would help me narrow down what helmets to consentrate on and have a closer look at.
Once I pick a couple I am interetsted in I can take some photos and post them on the forum for comment.
From what I understand some are quite rare and I see this as a good opertunity to pick up a nice pickelhaulbe.
Any help would be much appreciated.
    Regards
    Peter

My best advice is to buy the one you like the most. You will be more happy with a helmet that you enjoy looking at every day, than a helmet that you know is rare but that just dosent "do it" for you.

As to most desirable I would say Cavalry then Infantry and last Artillery. But that is just my opinion, and I am sure some of the more experienced collectors can give you better advice. Also guard units tend to bring a premium.

      Hi Peter,
In general the most desirable helmets are the metal cavalry helmets like Garde du Corps, Garde Reiter, Kurassier...
Of course this is a personal choice and will differ from person to person. Imo the most important things are:
      - the condition must be very good to mint
      - the helmet must be complete
      - the helmet bust be 100% original and not put together
      - regiment stamps are a bonus
      - ...
I would first of all look things up in some reference books or on the internet, before purchasing a helmet.
Here are a few VERY good links:

I hope this helps you a bit...

        Help with pickelhaubes

        Gents

Thanks for replying to my request for help.
I will use what you have told me and start doing some reading and having a closer look at the helmets.
If I find one that I like I will take some photos and post them on the forum for review.

        Regards
        Peter

My advice Peter, read what Karel wrote again. And then read it again.

I too would like a haub. A prussian infantry EM haub would do me fine is anyone knows of any for sale.
