Does anyone have any info on this strange pickelhaube?

I've been told is a rare Austro-Hungarian prototype that never went into production. Other than that I can find absolutely nothing about this helmet or who made it. Any help anyone.

The helmet plate is Austrian and does not belong on this helmet.

Thanks! Any thing else? Hmm, is it for a shako?

Yikes, what a Frankenstein! The plate is not for an infantry shako; possibly hussars, or ulans. Austrian, of course.

Re: what's it worth; what's the condition of the interior? It appears to have both cockades, and the chinstrap, but, of course, it needs a correct enlisted plate. If the interior is ok, I would estimate $400-500. Not sure what a plate would cost, but I would guess $100, or so.

The interior is ok ,the liner is present and in decent shape. There is a stamp, but its hard to make out, I can only make out the date of 1914. I can also see the wappen eyelet holes have been messed with. (enlarged) To compensate for that silly over-sized plate. Even though it's a Frankenstein piece I still find it interesting... you know, I wonder who what when and where it came from? Oh and another strange thing is the right side cockade is colored black, white, and a yellow center... I researched and checked everywhere, nothing matches those color combination's. The left side cockade is black with white. I might want to sell at some point so I was curious. Anyway thanks so much for your info! ~Mark
