    bayonet

The bayonet is a rare variation in a couple of ways. It is a 98/05 a/A saw that is known in the bayonet collector world as a "transitional" because it has had a flashguard added to it at the time of manufacture as the 98/05 n/A model does and is dated 1915. It is a bridge between the old pattern and new pattern. It still has the ears on top of the crossguard where the new pattern does not. It is in fairly good condition and is with the original leather scabbard. It has matched unit markings to the 17 th Hussar Regiment which is very rare. The mounted units usually used the shorter model bayonets because the longer ones were a problem.Somebody thought that it was worth the money. I'm sure someone else will comment.
