Since we are into M18 helmets lately, I want to present you my M18 mit Ohrenausschnitt, size 64, produced by Eisenhüttenwerke Thale A.G., Thale /Harz.
There's still a lot of the original felt camouflage present. Applying the felt finish was in those days a very special technique and it was used to take the glare of the paint away. The liner pins have the standard feldgrau color because the helmets were painted first and afterwards the liners were put in the shell with standard liner pins. The other helmets with this felt camo I've seen were all done the same way, so I'm quite sure it was done this way...
