    An unissued M18 Si62

Here's as promissed an unissued M18. The drawstring is still untied and fixed trough one hole of a linerpad. There is no visible use on the chinstrap, paint, liner...
The helmet is produced by Eisenhütte Silesia, Paruschowitz Oberschlesien, who produced only size 62 - 66 shells. This one is a size 62 and has also the ink stamp. The AK stamp is also present...
The paint is a dull Feldgrau... The chinstrap is marked "1918 Otto Koch & Co Berlin S.O."

I note the cord is not run though the pads. Were they issued to soldiers in that do it yourself manner?

Has remains of mailing label glue on the front, also a faint pencil name 'To Helen F. Buckley'.

Adler 1 and Eric, those are definitely top shelf M18's. Thanks to both of you for showing. I bought my first M18 in that condition from Ron Manion in the early 80's for $150.00. I sacrificed many of those fine helmets over the years to fund my WWI U.S.M.C. addiction.

                        Chuck,
I remember the old Manion days! The old 'phone in' to place your bids. Thats where I got the M18 camo pictured. Then it went on a collecting journey before I saw it on ebay early last year. The return of an old friend!!

                        Eric.

You could also drive to his site and actually hold the helmets in your hands. I was teaching at the KU back then and did this quite often.

And all that time I had no idea you could get stuff from WWI. Only helmet I ever saw was a WWI M16 in a gun shop when I was 8 and up and a 20 dollar relic M40 I bought when I was 12 in North Park San Diego.
