I don't see any red flags with this one Scott. It appears to be a legit WWI M1915/17 German canteen, with a dark brown corduroy cover. Can you post a clear close-up pic of one of the snaps on the cover?

Thanks Chuck, i have no pix of the snap buttons but if i buy this i will post some better pix of the snaps for you. i,m just trying to build a small collection of ww1 field gear items at the moment for my collection.

I studied the things as a re enactor and have an original and some original parts. NO worries on that one it's a good one. I doubt the snaps were replaced and I'd not worry about any part of it.
Of interest East German Canteens used the same hardware from the same dies to make the hooks post war. But you can pretty much tell if one's been repaired.
