Help with Great-Grandfather's Uniform

Hi All,

I'm looking for a little assistance in identifying this uniform.

It belonged to my Great-Grandfather Wilhelm Pahl from Bessarabia. Family history is that he was a sergeant-major in a Cossack regiment and served five years in the Stavropol region.

However, one opinion on a Russian forum was that it was not Russian and just based on the litzen, I thought I would try here.

Does anyone have any opinions to offer?

Well, absolutely not Imperial German Confederation. Next counrty?

I'm not sure, but possibly Romanian, or Bulgarian? Not German, or Austrian.

Romanian is an interesting thought. He was from Bessarabia which was part of Russia at the time, but then went to Romania after the first world war, then to the Soviet Union, and now is part of Ukraine.

I'll try that lead.

I have an update from a gentleman at the Irkutsk Regional Museum. It is the uniform of a private of the 45th Seversky Dradoons Regiment, dated 1897-1904.

So it was Russian after all. Good to see you found out what unit it was from.
