    Prussian Garde Helmet Eagle

Hello folks. Trotted this one out yesterday for a quick photo-op. Picked it up over the summer from a local estate. I had to have both of the large loops and one of the smaller ones (on the star-left side from rear) replaced / re-soldered as they were missing, but now it's presentable / mount-able again. As it appears to be made entirely of nickel silver, I'm assuming that it's for a pre-war or more of an officers type application? Thanks.

It appears to be an enlisted Guard Ulan's Wappen. The eagle looks like a model 1915 steel version. If so, I question whether the guard star is original to the Wappen as I have never seen a 1915 guard Ulan eagle with an original star. They were cut for stars but don't seem to ever have had them attached.

Hi, and thanks for your comment. Well, considering where I got them, a totally NON-collector / dealer source, I highly doubt that they were "married". Not to mention they fit together perfectly, are made of the exact same material, etc. I personally do not believe it's steel, as there is absolutely NO sign of any rust anywhere. I believe this insignia to be plated brass, or nickel silver, etc. At the very least, a non-ferrous metal. The "stained" areas on the obverse photo are a result of the flash, and indicative of where the metal was heated during the loop re-soldering. In person, this is hardly noticeable. Thx!

Easy to check. Will a fridge magnet stick to it?

Then it is a Neusilber (nickel-silver) pre-1915 eagle for Ulanen Regts 1 and 3.

              See LIST

Below is the one for Ulanen Regt Nr. 2 with the gilt eagle. You can see how distinctive that Ulanen pattern chicken is.
