Checking my premise on liner pins.....

Liner pins for M16. M17 and M18 Helmets....

I've noticed two different lengths of liner pins. Shorter for the M17 and M18 liner bands and longer for the M16 thicker leather liner band. I was talking to an Ebay seller with an extensive collection and he told me he did not have time to teach me and that I should go get Ludwig Baer's book and read it.

He just blew me off as if I had no clue of what I was typing about. But I've owned Baer's book and do not recall any discussion of liner pin lengths.

I have observed with my own eyes the difference. So I am assuming the Germans sought to save steel by shortening the length on the liner pins used in the steel band liners. If for any other reason then they could!

Has anyone else seen this? Or am I just crazy?

I had not noticed this, but the leather liners bands are thicker than the metal ones. Could this be a reason?

The Germans were the most rational of all the combatants. I am certain that it most certainly is the reason
