W, I would,nt worry to much. So your paid a bit to much we all do it!
Is the other pouch like this one? It,s pretty close to MINT. 14dated and unit marked. Really nice pouches are getting really hard to find. I,d proudly place it in my collection anyday. So the belt is a bit of a 'Grunt' repair job, so what. I allways like items that were USED! My opinion on the buckle is its from a Parade belt (without better pictures).

I think the 1914 dated one was from the other poster. Mine are 1916 and 17 dated. One looks unissued with a broken strap.

I could always swap out the parade buckle for my un issued buckle I already have but it will be some time before I get enogh pieces to put on display.

Here is an inside shot of the buckle. I have compared it to photos on militaria sites and the welded arm seen is different then all the examples I was able to view.

What can you tell from the photo?

Great then it's settled I get to keep them and not have to worry about finding another pair.

I missed the chance to bid on a WWI german pack late war canvas! It sold for 150 bucks!

The Buckle if there are any problems with it is not enough to worry about.

            Thanks everyone!

              W.,

I'm interested in the markings on the pouches. Would you mind posting some better photos. I may be able to decipher them. I have a good size data base that I could compare even fragments to.

              Thanks,
              Chip

                Chip,

I can barly read them with my eyes and my eye sight is about 98% from what the eye Dr. told me. My camera won't be able to capture anything. I could try the paper and pencil trick with them?

                W.

I knew you would come around Eric, considering that you're selling some nice original pieces on ebay.

                    W.,

Was there really any doubt in your mind? Besides the straight info you get here there are also plenty of references identifying the differences between this equipment.

That late war pack was nice... I almost went after it myself.

The buckle is original, but, I think someone cleaned/shined the hell out of it. I don't see any of the original paint remaining. I have no idea what a WWI German "parade" buckle is... I would like to see the reference on that one.

from what I got about reading on the buckle is they were shinny pre war. Tho the the weld is un like any of the reference photos I saw but I did not view that many.

                        W.,

I believe the early buckles were made of brass and nickel.

They were! Are you saying this one was once field gray and was cleaned and polished to bare metal? It really does look like it was electro plated.

They also had 60 further rounds in the Backpack to be removed on dumping their packs and put in the Tunic pockets and breadbag.
The Rule of engagement was. Rounds from breadbag then left and right tunic pocket followed by left and right ammo pouch, in that order.
Where did you get that "Rules of Engagement" information? Wilhelm, your buckle appears to be original but someone cleaned it vigorously and removed all the paint from the looks of things which gave it a polished nickle finish appearance.

I dunno where the rules of engagement came from? I can tell you it's almost impossible to get anythng out of your bread bag LOL I can imagine trying to get ammo under fire would be pretty hairy.

With no direction, at re enactment's I found it most handy to get your ammo from your tunic pockets. Getting it from the pouches was a pain in the arse.

I also took a look at my repro pouches. repor makers use modern rivets that are larger then the originals. My repro's are longer then the originals too. Not sure if that was by design or leather shrinkage.

But now comparing them I can see the vast quality difference! They don't make them like the originals anymore that's for sure.

                              W,
