A friend of mine recently showed me a Bavarian belt buckle he found. It has a brass body with a high relief silver color Bavarian coat of arms roundel. I have been looking every where I can think of and can't find a thing about it. My guess is that it could be a WWI or before NCO buckle. Can any one confirm or correct me on this? Thanks, Fred

Hello,
There were at least three issue dates and three different sizes.
Here is the M1848 on the above site, if you check in the other date sections you can see which buckle is closest to your friend's. The M48 is larger than the others.

I think that you may find it very interesting in trying to identify this buckle.
Images from your link are attached.
I have scoured the few reference works which embrace nineteenth century and onward German buckles and with no joy. I cannot work out the size of the buckle, or the size of the gap between the claws.
The pin looks as though it has been replaced and the method of fixing the roundel is worthy of comment. It appears to be silver soldered on rather than attached by solder holes or tabs.
My guess is that the buckle is not military and instead, civil or administrative related.

Many thanks David! Here are some observations to help out the experts. Buckle is 61.3 mm wide and 47.3 mm tall. The roundel is 44 mm in diameter, and 7 mm tall. It has the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" below the Bavarian arms. The roundel also may be silver or nickel plated. On the back side the prongs are 23.8 mm wide on the outside and 18.55 mm wide on the inside. The catch is 21 mm on the outside and 16 mm on the inside. Thank you all for your help. I hope some one can pin this one down for us. Fred

I believe that your buckle is an enlisted land customs buckle.
