From the same source a secound pair! Seller said, the boards belonged a Lt. Bosse. I found a Reserve Leutnant (in the officer list of the IR 92) with the name Friedrich Bosse.

I own a lot of photos that show the different kinds of Braunschweig other ranks boards in wear, but no officers

        Who can help?

          Sarge,

What is the diameter of the buttons in mm? At first glance, they look like M15 enlisted buttons. Are they hollow or solid backed? If they are hollow, they are enlisted, if solid, they are private purchase and therefore have a chance to be officer's buttons. They shoud be about 18mm. If they are 21mm, they are not for shoulder boards.

            Hallo Chip,

up to now I have the boards not in my hands, but I asked the seller and he told me solid 18 mm buttons.

Another question! The first pair shoulder boards are longer (more than 110 mm) and the seller told me the secound pair is only 90 mm. Why the difference? One pair for a tunic and the other? Coat or other use?

              Sarge,

18mm is correct for a shoulder strap button. The length could vary, especially on sew-in boards like these. Any extra length could be hidden in the shoulder seam.

              Are you keeping both pairs?

              Gruß,
              Chip

It seems the boards are different! This pair has a field grey back. Made at the beginning of ww1?

The other pair looks darker with a white back colour. White - the infantry colour! War made items after 1915?

                          Sarge,

Both pairs are M15's (Sept. 21, 1915), the ones with the white Unterlagen being the official type and the pair with the feldgraue Unterlagen being the unofficial version.
