There were 13 German Stahlhelm manufacturers.

Maker, location - Code (shell sizes made)

    1. Gebrueder Bing A.G., Nuernberg - G.B.N. (size 64 shells)

    2. F.C. Bellinger, Fulda - B.F. (sizes 62, 64)

    3. J. & H. Kerkmann, Ahlen/Westf. - K. (64 shells)

    4. Gebrueder Gnuechtel A.G., Lauter i./Sa. - G. (62 shells)

    5. Vereinigte Deutsche Nickelwerke, Schwerte i/Westf. - N.J.(the "J" is likely an "I") (62 shells)

    6. R. Lindenberg A.G., Remscheid-Hasten - "Bell" L. (64 shells)

    7. Koerting & Mathiesen, Leutsch /Leipzig - K&M (66 ? and 68 sizes) This maker is truly rare.

    8. Hermann Weissenburger & Co., Stuttgart-Canstatt - W. (only size 66 is known to me)

    9. C. Thiel & Soehne, Luebeck - T.J. (again, the "J" is likely an "I") (sizes 66,68)

    10. Eisenhuettenwerke Thale A.G., Thale /Harz - E.T. (all sizes 60 through 68)

    11. Eisenhuette Silesia, Paruschowitz Oberschlesien - Si. (sizes 62, 66)

    12. Siemens & Halske A.G., Siemenstadt Berlin - superimposed S over H stamp (Size 60 shells)

    13. F.W. Quist, Esslingen/Neckar - Q (size 66 shell)

I have posted the shell sizes known to me. If anyone has any corrections, please add them.

I have only heard rumours of size 70 WW1 helmets. You stated on another thread that you actually have one?

I added Quist to the list. Don't know how I could have forgotten it.

I believe I do own an original size 70 helmet but it's not stamped. A reproduction liner size 68 steel band did not fit in it. I have to have a liner custom made for it.
I don't know if this is conclusive but don't have any other explanation why the size 68 was too small for it. It was from the best maker, Flower Prairie

                W.,

I have never seen a size 70 either. Do you mind opening a new thread with good photos of yours?

I wouldn't mind seeing that either.

I can open a thread but am away from my personal computer again as an economic refugee. And the camera cannot capture stamps very well but as I say there is not one on the 70. I even put some paper over where the stamp should be and ran pencil over it to see if it would pick up anything the eye misses. Nothing....

When I get back what type of shots do you need?

                    W.
