        Still a tricky one ,it has age but looks more WW2 than WW1 , I would give it a miss unless it was $150 or so .Rob

          The helmet's camo is un like any spring time pattern circa 1918 I've seen but there was no standard job. I agree with Robb, the Camo looks like WWII style and because of the base coat I think it's a mock up albeit not done recently. While it could be a good WWII job it's doubtful being it's a second line issue helmet.

          See my other entry in the original thread on this one.

            David,

            If you are looking for an honest original WWI example of a German camo painted steel helmet this is not it. I don't see the original field grau paint underneath areas of wear where you would expect to find some. I don't like the paint, the application of such, and, I don't like the chipping in the paint or overall wear.

            IMO I think someone made a bad attempt at painting a WWII camo pattern on an original WWI shell.

            I would never consider purchasing this helmet as an original WWI German camo.

            Regards,

            Chuck

              Hello,

              IMO no problem, a good WW1 one.

                thanks all for the additional input- seems this field is as strewn with mines as WWII helms!

                  M16 Factory camo;

                  Here is a M16 factory camo that I picked up 25 years ago. It was in a shipping crate with 7 other identical camo helmets. They were all badly soot covered along with the crate. All had been in a fire and smoked very badly at some time. I was only able to get 2 of them. Sold the other one to a friend just after I got them. I took them home & washed both with mild soap & they cleaned up perfect. The colors are vibrant. The chin strap is a repro I put onit. Has original paint under the camo & inside. I don't think they were ever issued.

                      I like this one... why don't you start a separate thread and post more photos.

                        Dirk,

                        If you have the time I would like to see more of this helmet. Please post a new thread to include good clear close-ups of the paint, and all three rivets.

                          They were issued alright. About eighty years before they were painted.
