Looks good to me; marked to the 2nd squadron, Leib-Garde Husaren, Colors are correct for that regiment as well.

      Martin,

The outside of the cap looks fine. I do have a few questions about the markings. First, it seems odd to me that this cap is marked with a "III" for third Garnitur and yet it has no other date stamps. Normally, when a cap was reissued, it was also redated. The stamps are very nicely aligned. Perhaps this was the norm in peacetime, but during the war, such attention to orderliness was not adhered to. Finally, I am not crazy about the sweat/dirt pattern. Call me crazy, but one would think that a cap issued three times would have more oil and sweat on the lining band and at the very top of the lining, rather than so evenly spread out. Maybe I am nit-picking or perhaps these are some things to ponder.

        Hello Chip,

Thank you for your advice. I feel the same... but the worst is "III" for me... the rest ( I mean a cap) seems to be OK. What should I do... buy it or not More advices, please

My advice is to pass- I believe it to be a carefully crafted copy...

            Martin,

If you are thinking about purchasing this cap, just remember that any questions that surface now will surface again when you want to sell or trade this piece. I personally don't want to own something that I would have to try to explain when I want to sell. When in doubt, pass.

              Martin,
I disagree with the opinions you have received. I have sent the photos to some very well respected collectors of Imperial German pre-war hats, and all have said this is absolutely an original hat. One in particular, wanted to buy it, I passed on your message, a shame it can't be sent out of poland.
