    Ebay M18 cut out

Someone told me they think this one is bad. I don't see anything to say this. I don't like the recent rust but the shape and cut out looks good to me. Am I missing something?

Greetings Wilhelm: The reason this shell is bad is there is no "flare out" at the ear cut-out portion of the shell . The cut-out section on this helmet simply follows the contour of the apron without protruding where in reality it should "flare out" because authentic ones are manufactured by adding steel to produce a fare where reproductions are simply cut out of the apron. A little difficult to describe bur easily distinguihed when seen. I can post pictures of the one I have and you will see what I am trying to describe. Notice the "flare out" present , that is missing in the one listed. Hope this helps.
    Regards
    Zeke

Well I know there is a collector who is on the forums with a name a lot like his seller name. Maybe it was the same guy.

Greetings Charles. Thank you for your appreciation. I will be happy to post more pics of my helmet for your viewing. I hope to post them in a few days when the weather cooperates and I can get outside to take some decent photos. Right now it is -40 celcius. I might even start a new thread entitled M18 cut-out. Wilhelm...I'm glad I was able to explain myself adequately enough to enable you to recognize the proper constuction of an M18 cut-out for future use.
              Best Regards

Had the seller posted good photos I'd have seen it right off as I own one cut out and had owned two at one time.
Where did you get your cut out? Is it a WWII re issue?

Starting a new thread sounds good Zeke. Too bad about the weather... I grew up in Michigan so I know what it feels like. I think I'll stay out here in the land of fruits and nuts (SoCal) for awhile enjoying this 80 degree winter weather we're having right now.

Greetings Wilhelm: In regards to the helmet posted on ebay, if you look closely at the photo of the front of the helmet and the photo of the top of the helmet you can make out there is no flare on the hood. The paint also is a give away as it doesn't exhibit honest wear....rather the old "beat with a chain" wear to age it and let "rust" do the rest. I obtained my M18 from an old estate many years ago and along with the photo posted, I will post others that show the original feldgrau paint and threepad liner that has never been reissued. Thank you for the interest.
                    Best Regards
                    Zeke

OUCH!!!! You wouldn't want to trade 1 week of 80 degree weather for an old M18 ear cut-out would you
                      Best regards

80 degree weather in the winter. One prime reason I left. Who wants to break SWEAT year round?

I love winter and all the seasons in the pacific north west.

                          Zeke,

I've got plenty of room. You fly out here with that helmet and I'll trade you a months worth of this weather. Heck... I'll even take you down to Tijuana and show you............
