Birdie, not sure if the helmet plate is original to that helmet. The oxidation to the other brass parts is much more than the plate itself. The plate looks like a guards plate. Any marking inside? Mike.

Looks like a nice M95 enlisted helmet. The eagle is a Prussian grenadier type, as opposed to the usual "line" type. Markings in the neck guard could confirm issue to a Grenadier regiment. The difference in patina is because the wappens (in this case the Grenadier eagle) of enlisted helmets were plated. Not gilded as on officer helmets, but a lesser quality plating. Any pics of the inside, especially any markings? Any extra holes in the helmet behind the eagle? From the pics, looks like a nice untouched piece to me.

Birdie, i agree with Steve, except for the grenadier part ... It's a helmet for Manschaften of Königs-Inf. Regt. (6. Lothringisches) Nr. 145 ...
Normaly these helmets were worn with flat chinscales, but they were replaced by standard leather chinstraps for use "in the field"...
Is the spike removable? It should be, because Ing. Regt. Nr. 145 was entitled to wear a parade plume...

            Greetings from Belgium,

            Adler 1

PS The chinstrap has to be at the front side of the helmet and not at the rear ...
