    Helmet chinstrap

Greetings: I have for your viewing and comments a WW1 helmet chinstrap. I would appreciate any information as to it's authenticity and construction and to what model helmet it might have been used on. Thank you to all who reply for your consideration and for sharing your knowledge. All the best.
    Regards
    Zeke

I think so too. All the leather I've seen from that time period pretty much has a old time look that this leather does not have.

Doesn't give me a warm fuzzy feeling...I think the whole thing could be an artificially aged repro...

The hardware looks good but has a weird patina. Looks like a ferrous metal.
Has some signs of being kicked around a little.
The leather has stood up well if it is original but I think a replacement. Anyway
someone has gone to a lot of trouble to make up such a nice replacement strap for original fittings (if they are original?).
It looks to wimpy for a M16 strap.
Maybe made up for an ersatz type felt picklehaulb.
                    Just a thought. IMHO John

                      Interesting views

Greetings: Thank you for all replies and opinions so far. This has become a very interesting discussion. I do not think there has been any artifical aging involved as I cannot see any signs of sanding, chemical application ,rubbing or heat application. The hardware itself looks good in hand and if you look closely at the attaching lug pictures you can see the holes flared out from wear and useage. The color and wear also seems very consistant with all the metal hardware. The same with the folded crease in the leather. It has been formed from years of being in that postion The stitching also(if you look closely at the attached photos), has seemed to bond together which to me seems to have been done a long time ago. I appreciate all thoughts and replies so far look forward to all further comments.
                      Regards

I never thought it was aged. I think it's just a well used reproduction. Use by re enactors will put honest age on reproduction gear.

Here is the inside and out of my helmet after only two events. Basically 4 days of wear. The liner, chin strap and helmet's paint all started off as brand new.
