    helmet identification

    Hello Imperial guys

Just wondering if someone of you is able to identify this lid?

Any opinion on this would be highly appreciated, any thought or statement more than welcome!

The helmet has been re-issued in TR area with new paint and eagle decal (doubtless original). The liner looks like a civil one (fire depart.??).
But what kind of lid was it? M16, M18....Hungarian, Bulgarian, Austrian............

    Many thanks in advance!

I think that the helmet was originally Hungarian M17. The chinstrap rings are added later. As for the liner, don't know but sure looks civil. Am I correct about the lid itself?

....but on the other hand the old chinstrap fittings are more of this style (Bulgarian??)

In addition I would call it a Hungarian-Bulgarian fire department re-issued Volksturm helmet

                Any other opinions out there

I think it was a Hungarian M17 helmet, reissued to the Austrian army after the WW1 /chinstrap rings added/ and later reissued by the Germans, after Austria became a part of the Reich.

IMO there is no connection to Bulgaria. Indeed the Bulgarians did such reissues /rings added/, but the Austrians did, too. And see this page, I think the chinstrap rings shown on one of the pictures shows exactly the same features, like the helmet in question:

Many thanks Theodor!! Your informations were very helpful

I just found a similar helmet (without the Austrian style chinstrap fittings) and that one is believed to be a (leightweight Alu Parade) M17 Hungarian

Some weeks ago I wasn´t sure what to think about this helmet........ today I found one similar with some informations.

So what I had was a modified Austrian WW1 lid, produced by the wellknown firm Berndorf and not a Hungarian or whatever.

The little bear (trade mark for Berndorfer) inside was the key!!
