Ammo pouch - German?

Hi,

I got this old ammo pouch from a WWII veteran. He served in the European Theatre. I do not believe the ammo pouch is American and it does not look like any German ones I have seen. It looks pre-WWII. Does anyone have any ideas?

Looks like a leather SKS pouch to me. The East Germans used them in the 1950s but how WWII vet would get one from there, I have no idea. Probably not German in origin. Possibly Soviet (they first issued in 1945)?

I agree. It looks like a Russian SKS ammo pouch. He must have gotten it some time after the war.
