Is this Bavarian helmet plate original?

I bought this off Ebay but there is a return policy. What do you think?

I've had a lot of views so I assume most people think it's original. I've never owned a bavarian one but this one looks a little too clean.

Well, to be honest I hadn't responded because I was hoping one of the more knowledgable people here would respond first. To me this plate seems to lack the detail I would expect from an original Imperial era plate. The details fo the Bavarian arms are awfully fuzzy looking to me, but I could be wrong.

Thanks Mike that's what I thought. Anyone else think I should return it?

im no expert- but i also think that this plate lacks detail, im sure that a good quality plate would not be too hard to come by.

The retaining loops look strange to me.

Thank you gentlemen. The guy said he took it off a ratty helmet but I have never seen a ratty piclkhaube with a new looking plate and the detail just wasn't sharp, not to mention the newish looking loops. The pictures on e-bay were not near as good as mine which should have tipped me off. Still he did have a 7 day return policy so maybe he just didn't know about these. Of course I am out about $20 shipping.

Here is an original near-mint M1896 Wappen for you to compare to. These issued Bayern Wappen in the issued M1896 pattern do not have a ton of detail, but there is some. On another note, all bases for the M95 loops on the reverse were flat for soldering; all round is not a period loop. Tony

                      Military Trader,

I could be way off, but it looks to me like your wappen is made from a mold that was made from an original plate, if you follow me. The details on Tony's helmet plate has some fuzziness, but the one you have is even fuzzier, like even more detail was lost when the mold was made.

Exactly what I thought. I have never seen helmet plates produced from original molds or plates floating around but his sure looks like that.
