    Strap and Uniform Info

Here is a picture my my uboot vet friend Edgar's father. From what Edgar can remember he said his father was with the 16th Infantry regiment. His father was from Saxe-Altenburg. Can any one confirm this from the shoulder strap and uniform, and what rank is he in this picture? This picture was taken before WW1. He ended WW1 as an Lt with the 3rd Company nr.133 Construction Battalion

        What is a Vizefeldwebel?
Here is a picture of his shoulderstraps, sword knot and cap cockades at the end of the first world war. He had removed any devices or cyphers that were on the straps. Edgar can't remember what they were and where they went

Its the highest rank of NCO. They were entitled to wear the officer's sword knot, officer's Kokarden on the cap, and the special "Unteroffizier mit Portepee" Kokarde on the Pickelhaube. Have a look at THIS chart. I really need to get some photos on it....
