    WW1 German Helmet

I got this given some years back by friends of my mam & dad from South Africa who had it and thought it was a WW2 helmet and they sent it over to me because I was collecting WW2 stuff.

I'm not sure if it's an M16 or an M18 - what's the differences? The liner band is still there but the liner has been cut out and the chin strap is missing. The shell is marked on the rim K64 (stamped into the metal) and has an ink stamp of 64 (size I presume), there is also the number 6197 (as best as I can tell) and it has someone name on the rim but I can't make it out, I can make the number 12/51 out but not the name?
The external colour in the pictures is not coming out too well? The light has made it seem a lot darker than it is - it's similar to the internal green but it looks like it's gone a bit darker and has been polished maybe?

    Hello,
Thats a German M16 helmet. The M18 had a metal liner band with chinstrap attatchments, so there would not be the chinstrap lugs attatched to the shell.

Cheers! I wasn't sure what the differences were...now I know!
