Congratulations. That is a really nice helmet. I have always had a soft spot for "been there, done that" pieces. Pristine items might look good on display, but there is something to be said about a piece that screams "history"
Unfortunately the original owner might not agree to much with me.

I think the original owner might have made it or lived. If the Shrapnel's velocity was diminished enough before hitting the helmet a surgeon might have been able to fix the German up at least well enough to be sent home.
As for the helmet it's a one looker all original.

I would say that guy was K.I.A. A hit right at the line like that would pretty much do ya in. But then again with no dent on the back of the helmet he may have had just one hell of a head ache. I saw a camoed helmet once where the bullet went through the front hit the back and then traveled up the top of the helmet. You could see the bullet track all the way through, it was very interesting. Named to a guy in a mortar crew if i remember right. Anyways sweet helmet!!! Matt
