    unknown spike...to me

    hello friends,

I today bought an helmet without knowing what I really bought

It was on ebay Belgium and it was sold by a dealer who sold some old estate stuff, not a real military dealer.

He stated it as "pike helmet 14-18".

I got it relatively cheap, but some help on what it really is, would be welcome.

    Thanks,

    Nico

Hi Nico it's a prussian infantry pickelhaube 1915 pattern. The inside leather is missing like the cocades and chinstraps. We call them "petit gris" in France.
      Cheers,
      Martin.

        I paid some 200 euro's for it.

This one can be restored very well. The important parts are present and the chinstrap and rondells can be found. P.S. It will be your choice whether or not to bring back the leather, but this one can turn into a very nice piece. Sorry, I am not up on Euros. Is that equal to 2 USD's?

What's to restore? Clean it a bit if you want, polish leather & metalwork if you want to, buy a couple of obviously shiny new repro cockades & chinstrap in the absence of availability of original items, stick it on a stand & enjoy it. I would'nt stick a faked up leatherliner in it, it just ruins the integrity of the piece.
