    Chinstrap on ebay

    http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

    Hi

the above link is to an auction run by "military-bargains-uk" I have heard some not so great things about him,
Am I right in thinking both items are fake? (way out of my depth in the ww1 stuff)
the bags marks seem pretty fresh, And the chin strap seems in amazing condition.

    Cheers
    Nick

There is some good stuff in the UK from time to time. One of the first lessons I leanred as a noob collector was that you have to be very careful about what you find from UK sellers.
Just today I found a nice looking but also original looking M17 liner on ebay. When I saw it was from the UK I looked at it a lot closer. After looking at it things did not add up. The leather was dry and the band rusty. Seems to have been burried in the ground for some months. Bad was too rusty and the leather dry and yet no holes torn through on the liner fingers.

Another probable fake from the UK I will avoid. Sorry for no comment on the chin strap. being from the UK I did not want to go to the link

        Hi!!!
Unlucky, we cannot see the sewn of the the leather on the brass bucklet, but for me
I don't like the all brass pieces too, not are an original aged and this are without patina and look like a new made!!

Thanks for the comments guys, I just mentioned the user ID as I had heard some not so raving reviews about some of his items.

Lafitte - I also wondered about the aging or lack of it on the fittings.

prussian.guard - Yeap it appears you can pick up junk for every were, I have not delt with Pickelhaube parts before hence my questions.

            Cheers

Yes Nick, unlucky there are more pickels or helmets than chinstraps!!
In the end sometimes we must used a copy for complete a helmet, but i will happy to be sure what that i buy is it a copy and the price must be proportional!!!
There are lot of grades in the copies, often we can see good brass or iron fittings on fake leathers etc..
Importat is it know for what piece i spend my money!!
In this case the chinstrap is it totally not original, no problems we can always wait for the next one!!!!
