    Officer's Giburne/Belt?

    Hi All -

This is up for auction on eBan: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

When I first saw it I assumed it was a brocade shoulder belt for Polizei, but the seller says it is a WWI officer's giburne, whatever that is. Anyone know what it's function was and if it is indeed of WWI vintage?

    As always, any help appreciated!

    Don,

I may be wrong, but I believe that is the fancy belt worn over the shoulder and across the chest by most cavalry officers. It usually had a leather or metal fancy catridge box that hung in the back (which appears to be missing with this particular belt).
