Did the Germans always use leather cases for their helmets?

I just bought, but haven't gotten yet, a British Foreign Service Helmet from the Boer War, and it has the metal storage/transport tin. Tin seems to have been the British method for their Home Service Helmets too.

Just trying to figure out what countries used what. I believe the Americans used leather cases.

Hi Peter,
The Brits and Canucks favored Japanned Tin helmet boxes (black enamel or lacquer used to produce a durable glossy finish). All the Imperial cases I've seen are leather covered.

I do not think I have ever seen a Pickelhaube case of any sort that was covered in actual leather. They are cardboard, covered in leatherette. Actual leather; never seen one. And can you imagune the expense? Why would it be covered in leather? Its just a storage box, not meant to be water-proof. T
