Having never owned one forgive me if this is a dumb question. Do these kind of shirmmutzen with the distinctive high round crown have metal stiffeners sewn in at the front, both sides and back to keep the top cover from falling down?

No problem Ben. I'll post it below. To answer your question though, there are usually two coiled wire stiffeners in "stiff" Imperial Schirmmütze, one on the front, one at the back. They look like a small coil of solder, stretched and flattened. But very stiff. Does that make sense? The sides are held up by the tension of the wire that goes around the top circumference.
I really need to re-photograph all the caps so they are the same quality as the helmets...... the photo below is just awful.

Just out of interest, how much would an Artillery cap like the one in the photo be worth?
