    Question about Imperial visor caps

Having never owned one forgive me if this is a dumb question. Do these kind of shirmmutzen with the distinctive high round crown have metal stiffeners sewn in at the front, both sides and back to keep the top cover from falling down?

As far as I know: yes, but I don't know exactly if it was wire or some cardboard.
The same holds for pillboxes (Krätzchen), but in both cases the stiffener
    could be removed.

Ben, you could have e-mailed me to ask, seeing as that is my cap and Copyrighted photo........

No problem Ben. I'll post it below. To answer your question though, there are usually two coiled wire stiffeners in "stiff" Imperial Schirmmütze, one on the front, one at the back. They look like a small coil of solder, stretched and flattened. But very stiff. Does that make sense? The sides are held up by the tension of the wire that goes around the top circumference.

I really need to re-photograph all the caps so they are the same quality as the helmets...... the photo below is just awful.

Yes, it does Tony, thanks. The cap I have in my hands has these stiffeners. I wasn't sure of it's origins because the crown wire has been taken out and the whole cap flattened. Puzzle now solved!

Just out of interest, how much would an Artillery cap like the one in the photo be worth?
