M16 Camo help with maker mark please.

    Hi All,
Been quite a week for me with 2 friends out of the blue producing helmets.(not all good there though).
This friend mainly collects awards, but has wanted a good WW1 example of a helmet, and I believe he has found himself a nice and possibly rare maker marked lid? rare as in I don't recognise it or can't read it - unfortunately not a member here yet, so I've had the okay to post up the photos he sent me for viewing.(he has a nice camera).
Is anybody familiar with the marking on the nape? it looks like KO. also the crown number looks like P 99 4, - but will probably be 64 at the end as it looks like a 64 size to me.I've guesstimated the value at 3 ton easily, but I hope I'm not too far from the mark? - not important the value unless he wants to sell it to me.. , but please speak up if I'm way off the mark.

Is it safe to assume this helmet was produced in Württemberg as where the EKs are made? (K 0).

I believe it is "K64" with the second number being poorly/lightly stamped. There was a "K" manufacturer.

Chip is correct. According to fellow forum member Ken N’s website, the manufacturer who used “K” was Remscheid-Hasten K and they only manufactured them in size 64. I have to say that they are not a common maker, but I am not sure that would necessarily increase the value considerably. It may, I am just not sure if a lot of WWI helmet collectors collect M16’s by manufacturer. I have seen similar camo shells go anywhere from $300 to $450+. Hope this helps some.

                    Thankyou Chip and Lee.

That would seem to make more sense regarding the stamping.

I have a ET66, stamped as such in the crown, the serial number on the side nape.I appreciate that different manufactures stamped the other way around sometimes.

I sent a pm to a a member regarding the KO mark, as I never study up on the awards,(yet), to my embarassment,- as reading through some of the EK threads,- the KO is a bread and butter stuff to the award guys.Needless to say I never got a reply for asking a stupid question probably..
-Although wouldn't it be something if it turned out that a Known EK maker also made the odd helmet or two?! - Anybody know for sure?

But yes I agree that the K 64 makes much more sense than KO, and it will be nice to tell him he has a rarer maker.

                    Cheers guys,

I've just been posted better photos, and now I'm not so convinced it is K64.

Any 'K' owners out there that could confirm that above is a badly printed 64?(still could be and probably is), or did KO run a batch of lids?

This helmet is on ebay right now is it not? I looked at it and decided to pass on any bidding. If for any other reason then the pattern does not catch my fancy.
