Opinions on Camo Paint on '08 Schlitten?

Would you guys be so good as to have a look at this MG08 sled and share your thoughts on the camo paint?

I am considering this sled but would like to hear what someone with more experience than I have thinks about it.

    Thanks!!

    Harry

    Harry,
I would say the sled has been refurbished recently and that the paint is not old. These pieces literally got dragged around and beat up. My sled is a Durkopp dated 1917 and is originally painted plain gray with red primer showing through on the thin sheet tin inserts on the side. It also shows old rust from the paint being worn off in certain areas. It is a great piece and these are hard to find if you need one. The guns and sleds were sometimes camo'd but the paint on this one is not real IMHO.

Thanks, Dan. I figured it was fairly recently applied .

What do you think of the pattern? Typical of WWI?

This is my first Maxim so Imperial equipment is not my field of expertise.

      Thanks!

        Harry,
As you may know, the camo patterns were applied in most cases to suit the unit or individual. A look at the multitudes of camo stahlhelms will demonstrate this. As such this pattern is acceptable. I do not believe the majority were camo'd, but I have seen it.

Harry/Daniel - what was the outcome please on your sled restoration. I cannot open the images as they have been deleted. I am very interested in paint schemes for MGs and have even gone to the trouble of sending some original painted items to a UK labrotory, where they have been chemically analysed and replicated, minus lead.
I therefore have now an absolute exact match for Imperial Field Gray.

if you can post images again yes please.
            Best regards ,
            Mark
