    What unit is he from?

Can any of the Imperial German fans tell me what unit this man is from. The shoulder boards have the number 85 on them and seem to have white waffenfarbe. The rank is Hauptmann. The potographer was N. Simonsen located in Neumunster.

    Thanks,

    Chuck

The 85th Infantry Regiment was not garrisoned in Neumunster, but it is in the same corps district (A.K.IX Schleswig-Holstein) as the garrisons at Kiel (III Bn.) and Rendsburg. My guess is that he was from Neumunster. The corps color for the underlay of officer's shoulder boards was white.

      2nd Battalion

      Chuck,

II./Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 85 was stationed in Neumünster from 1872-1896 when it moved to Rendsburg. This would probably date the photo then from 1888 (introduction of the pattern of shoulder board worn in the photo) and 1896.

      Regards
      Glenn
