I'm looking to pick up my first pickelhaube. Any suggestions on a good dealer site? Also, whats a decent price range for an untouched, non-restored example? I know that prices will differ depending on what unit it came from but some general info to use as a reference point is what I'm really after. Thanks

Price is relative. It all depends on what you are looking for Infantry is less expensive usually unless it is a one with a battle honor or special front plate. Artillery and mounted units are scarcer and therefore more expensive. Next question, officer or enlisted? Enlisted is less expensive. Now are you looking for 1895 pattern, an ersatz or a 1915 pattern? The price range can run from $250 for a poor example to $15,000 or more. The only dealers I know that actually stock spiked helmets at all times are Great War Militaria www.greatwar.com, Helmut Weitze www.weitze.net and Militaria Online www.militaria-online.de . At the last two expect to get a top quality helmet at a top quality price. At GWM they have some average condition helmets and some that are restored or repaired. They will also have some top shelf items. Their prices used to be high, but have come down some. I would decide exactly what i want and then go from there.
If you want to have a look at what is out there so you can get some ideas, I suggest you go to Kaiser's Bunker www.kaisersbunker.com and or Col. J's www.pickelhauben.net Both are top notch collectors and great guys and have many articles relating to the spiked helmet.
